Former President of South Africa celebrates his 95th birthday in a South African hospital where his is being treated for a recurring bout of pneumonia. Mr. Mandela has been hospitalized for over a month and according to recent reports seems to be making significant recovery progress. We wish him the very best and a speedy recovery. The United Nations declared Thursday Nelson Mandela International Day as a way of recognizing the Nobel Peace Prize winner's contribution to reconciliation. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama also called Wednesday for the world to honor Mandela by heeding his example and serving others. The Obamas were sending their wishes and prayers to the former South African leader on his 95th birthday after meeting with his family last month while in South Africa.
